About my Design

ABOUT MY DESIGN
I built my environtment around two spaces, Obama and Madonna. The two spaces connect through movers which take you on a journey through the spaces of each client before coming togther atat the meeting place.Once you are on the mover, you are powerless. There is only one way to the meeting point and the journey involvesyour power been temporarily removed and whilst you feel vullnerable and out of your comfort zoneyou can really absorb what is going on around you, or get a new understanding of power as you explore its uses by other importantfigures in society. The spaces open and close whilst you are on the mover. This further reduces your power and curiousity. It adds an element of surprise and keeps you on your toes. Obama moves through the space of Madonna and Madonna moves through the space of Obama. This allows the clients to explore the different types of power that prevail in each client.

OBAMA'S OFFICE
Repitition of the small offices represent the collective power (force) of the people. His power resides in the people, he must gaintheir support before making decisions of his power may be threatened in elections to come.Obama is in and amongst the people. Fully emerged whilst at the same time, hard to get to. "we know he's got charisma""There is no harrumph to him, obama's style is quitly conversational""Obama is reaching out, he's saying the other side isn't evil, you cant imagine how powerful a message like that" "he seems obsessively eager to find common ground with conservatives"

MADONNA'S OFFICE
Madonna's power is exposed through publicity and popularity in the music industry. She is in the open. Every move she makes is known to the public. Her space in made up of 2 rooms, one which looks out towards Obama's studio and one that is quite private.
"you are swept up by a force greater than yourself, beautiful, but punky and strange.""i didn't fit into the popular group", i decided to emphasise my differences""being famous has so many outlets, for people to stalk and follow you""i want to be the director""writing is very intimate. You havet o be vulnerable, it's hard to do that with strangers. I had ups and downs before everyone got comfortable "

THE MEETING PLACE
The Dining TableThe table is designed with only two legs. It is all you need to support the table. A perfect balance of power from each side of the table. If one of those legswere slightly shorter, the table may become unstable, just like the balance of power between two people. It must be fair and equal, with a mutual respect for eachother.
The Chairs
Without the two clients, the meeting couldn't take place and neither of them would be there. It is all about balance of power. The chairs are suspended from the roof on a pulley which represents an outside force also acting on the balance between the two clients.
